What Type of Inhibitor is Famotidine?

3 min read
According to research published in *StatPearls*, famotidine is a competitive histamine-2 (H2) receptor antagonist, or H2 blocker, which works by selectively binding to receptors on the stomach's parietal cells. By acting as a competitive inhibitor, it prevents histamine from stimulating the production of gastric acid, thereby reducing stomach acid and alleviating symptoms of acid-related conditions.
