Adults with persistent symptomatic asthma experienced significantly fewer exacerbations and improved quality of life when treated with oral azithromycin for 48 weeks, according to findings from a major randomized controlled trial. This evidence supports the use of long-term maintenance azithromycin to reduce asthma exacerbations in carefully selected patients.
