While located close to each other in the neck, the thyroid and parathyroid glands serve completely different functions in the body, with the thyroid controlling metabolism and the parathyroid regulating calcium levels. Therefore, under normal conditions, the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine does not directly affect the parathyroid glands.
