Though a cornerstone in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), methotrexate has a paradoxical side effect, known as methotrexate-induced accelerated nodulosis (MIAN), which can cause or accelerate the formation of rheumatoid nodules in susceptible individuals. This condition is notable because it can occur even when the medication is effectively controlling joint inflammation.
