Mechanically ventilated patients have a significantly increased risk of developing gastrointestinal bleeding due to stress ulcers, a potentially life-threatening complication. Critically ill, intubated patients get Pepcid (famotidine) as a critical preventive measure, known as stress ulcer prophylaxis, to mitigate this serious risk.
