While once used for a variety of systemic bacterial infections, oral tablets containing the antibiotic gatifloxacin—marketed under brand names like Getz Tablet—were withdrawn from many markets, including North America, due to serious adverse effects. The primary concern was the medication's tendency to cause abnormally high or low blood sugar levels, leading to a ban on its systemic use.
